Suet
Suet is a high energy snack for a variety of backyard birds including woodpeckers, chickadees, Bushtits, and nuthatches. The best suet cakes should have a minimum of 6% crude protein and very little bird seed.
You can also grate some into an open tray to be enjoyed by ground birds like Dark-eyed Juncos!
